SPECIALTY TESTING CLINIC (ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), LD (Learning Disorder), and ASD (autism spectrum disorder)
Triangle Neuropsychology Services (TNS) is now offering a specialty testing clinic for ADHD (Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder), LD (Learning Disorder), and ASD (autism spectrum disorder). Unfortunately, most insurance companies do NOT cover this type of testing and consider these types of tests “not medically necessary.” We know that this can be confusing, but what this typically means is that the insurance companies will not provide coverage for elective services/procedures, and they decide what is and is not elective.
Many patients tell us that their insurance company assured them the evaluation would be covered. However, what the insurance company doesn’t tell you is that they require the provider to justify the need for services. This typically requires us to provide a copy of the final report. Once the insurance company reviews it, they often deny payment because it doesn’t meet “medical necessity.” This usually refers to underlying medical issues that could be causing or contributing to your symptoms (e.g., concussion, seizure disorder, etc.).
When this happens, we then must send our patients a bill for the full cost of the evaluation, which is often expensive and unexpected. We know these surprise bills are frustrating and often difficult to pay. To eliminate this possibility, we have developed a self-pay clinic at a reduced cost. There are three tiers of service depending on the complexity of the case (e.g., learning disorders, mood-related concerns, etc.).
For most patients, the entire evaluation process (intake, testing, and feedback) is completed in one 4-5 hour appointment, with a comprehensive report to follow in two weeks. Some patients require a two-appointment process; this is discussed prior to scheduling so you know what to expect.
Cost and Financing Information
The cost of these self-pay evaluations ranges from $1500-$3000, depending on the complexity of the case. The total cost is determined before scheduling so you know exactly what to expect.
We do require a deposit at the time of scheduling ($500) which is applied to your final balance. The remaining balance is due 24 hours prior to your appointment.
If you cancel your appointment within 72 hours of the appointment time, a cancellation fee of $350 will be deducted from your deposit and the balance will be promptly refunded.
